Feedback:

A few notes from the current review on the SX-1000’s by Paul Candy in the 6moons review.

“The casings simply refused to warm up regardless of how hard and long I drove the amps. Moreover, they only draw a few watts at idle. Tree huggers take note.”

“When I first fired up the 1000s, I was struck by the complete lack of hiss, hum or buzz. Even with the volume turned all the up and with my ear pressed close to a speaker baffle, I couldn't hear any noise.”

"While the amount of detail and information conveyed was impressive, it was not due to any undue brightness or highlighting. It all came across quite natural and well balanced. Cranking up the wick only made everything bigger and clearer but certainly not overbearing or glaring. In fact, I repeatedly felt compelled to listen at significantly higher levels than with other amps. If there had been any undue highlighting or over-emphasis of treble to give the impression of greater detail, it would have been obvious and ultimately unbearable at the window-rattling levels I experimented with. Not to mention that the dynamic range seemed to expand as volume increased. I can't think of any other amps that have gone so loud without compression or hardness. Whatever level I chose, the overall sonic signature remained the same, with the same degree of transparency and detail.”

“Bass performance was excellent but like everything else across the range, it didn't exactly stand out or call attention. Bass was taut, well defined, fluid, dynamic and extended far lower than the diminutive size of the amps suggested. I wasn't aware of any bloat or overhang. Thankfully missing was that completely unnatural muscle-bound synthetic droid bass exhibited by far too many high-power solid-state power amps that, to me, completely ruin the pulse and flow of music. Not here. The SX-1000 monos simply boogied.”

“The quality of bass coupled with the extraordinary grain-free smoothness through the midrange and treble; plus the amount of retrieved detail made for an exciting, well-articulated presentation that quite often allowed me to forget the mess of boxes and wires littering my living room to instead focus on the music at hand. That happens all too rarely and is usually something I find only with vacuum tubes. Yes, there were tubes in front of the amps via my Manley Labs Shrimp preamp but I found much the same effect running the monos direct with the completely solid-state Shanling PCD3000A CDP.”

“The SX-1000 monos have all that in spades - plus excellent dynamics, transient response and the ability to play loud without compression. Considering what you get for the price, these amps are a terrific value and for me, epitomize what our Realsization Award is about. Definitely one of the most impressive audio bargains around.”

Customer Feedback:

"Hi, got my SX-500's Monday, hooked them up that night with my Cary SLP-03 balanced preamp (new also), let it play for one day, last night I sat down to listen and I was blown away these amps sound incredible, more detail, more depth, greater dynamic range, I swear I good tell that Ray Charles (new sacd) was sitting at his piano with his voice projecting from left to right instead of forward, big upgrade from my Krell 400xi intergrated. I bought these on Walter Liedermans recommendation unheard and also since Dan Wright mentioned he liked the sound ( I have Dan's new phono stage), paid full retail and have no regrets, cant wait to listen to vinyl tonight!!!!"

"I received the amps today. They are absolutely STUNNING! I was hesitant to go for Class D amplification because I had no prior experience and because some folks seem to harshly criticize these designs on various internet forums, but I have no regrets at all! These amps are replacing a McIntosh MC275 tube amp I owned for a while, which is generally pretty highly regarded and more than double the cost of the SX-500 monos. In my system, the SX-500's are a MUCH better fit. They bring out much more detail/resolution from my Harbeth Compact 7ES-3's without sacrificing "musicality" in any way.  The soundstage is truly captivating. They are a really, really nice addition and I am completely satisfied with both the amps and with your customer service. Consider me a very happy Wyred 4 Sound customer."

"I haven’t been this giddy since I passed the bar exam nearly 20 years ago! My compliments to the Chefs!

That being said, I had a few minutes to do some critical listening (without the interruptions of my 6 year old son) and man I’m astounded. I can’t believe that I was about to drop $6,600.00 on a pair of Bryston 7B SST’s. Thank God my wife told me not to be so damn impulsive and do some internet research before I took that leap—perhaps that’s another story.  She obviously was right. So, to thank her, since she is from Venezuela, I put on some Santana, “Supernatural” and “Shaman.” Simply beautiful!  My Kef 207’s are positioned about 10 feet apart.  My listening area is about 27 x 20, hardwood floors, with a vaulted ceiling starting at 9 feet and going up to about 17.  Call me crazy, but the percussions and Carlos’ guitar climbed the ceiling and completely enveloped me sitting about 15 feet from the speakers. Soundstage you say?  Hell, I thought I was at a small venue and Carlos was playing live!

Next, Springsteen. Now I know that there are going to be a lot of folks who are critical of my listening choices. To them, I say to each his own! But, man, track 6 on Bruce’s “new” album “Magic,” “Girls in their Summer Clothes,” I felt like Bruce’s vocals were descending upon me from on high—cascading down from my vaulted ceiling, not to mention the acoustic guitar embracing me on left and right and punching me right in the nose in the center. Quite a moving feeling I must admit!  If I only didn’t have to go to work tomorrow.  To hell with it all; if I only was a gambler, I’d sell my law practice and cash in my retirement and dump every penny I had into Cullen Circuits and Wyred 4 Sound products! Ok, well, not so fast, but the interposition of reality can’t possibly curtail or harness my sense of being completely awestruck.

Without the SX-1000s and your email correspondences I wouldn’t be writing this email and I wouldn’t be so darn happy about listening to music again. Hope really does spring eternal, especially when there are honest folks like you (and Cullen) who dare to eschew conventional wisdom and labor to bring musically untalented people like me the great, great gift of music at a reasonable price! Thank you!"
